I've decided that for my next excursion, I'll be visiting Hawaii! I just have a few questions...
Are there any taxis over there? If so, are they really expensive?
What currency do they use? American dollars?
What's the temperature of the sea water like? Freezing cold or pleasantly warm?
Thanks in advance!

They definitely use American dollars. Can't help you with the rest of your questions but I'm looking forward to reading the answers from others.

Rich, Hawaii is incredible! You won't be sorry if you go there. It is a true tropical paradise!
It's been over twenty years since I visited there, but I would love to go back. Things in Hawaii were high in price. There are many tourist traps. You just need to be careful of what you buy. They sell things to tourists that don't even come from Hawaii!
We did not take any taxis. We were with a tour group that provided our transportation. The taxis seemed plentiful.
We went in January. The water didn't feel like bath water, but it wasn't terribly cold. Much warmer than what we experience here on the Atlantic side year round.
What islands are thinking of visiting? My favorite was Maui, but I strongly recommend taking the Pearl Harbor tour on Oahu. Maui has whale watching tours that are wonderful as well.

I think I'll strike out for the Waikiki beach and the dolphin swim they have there (yes, I've gone dolphin crazy!)
I was also looking at the Cook Islands, Fiji and Tahiti. Of the three, the Cook Islands and Tahiti cost too much in air fares (around £1,670!) I'm still umm-ing and ah-ing over Fiji, but I think I've settled on Hawaii (cheaper plus more to do and less time spent vegetating in a damn aeroplane!)

I used to live in Hawaii, Maui specifically. So I'm more than biased on that. I'd go back to Hawaii in a heart beat. If you'd like a less-touristy version of a tropical paradise, hit Maui.
If you want a lot of outdoorsy kind of things either hit Kauai or Molokai. (Molokai is a campers paradise).
Oahu, as coined by the locals who live there - is like Los Angeles in the ocean.
Never having been to Fiji, I'd not know from personal experience - though if I had to choose something other than Hawaii, it'd be Bora Bora.

What is the Waikiki beach in Hawaii like?
[EDIT]
Help me choose between a late holiday in Hawaii and one in Fiji! Pros and cons include:
Hawaii, Waikiki Beach
Ideal sandy beach
Perfect temperatures
Chance to swim with dolphins, rays and sea lions
Much cheaper to get to, meaning I can spend more on my hotel and still have plenty of spending money
Less time in the air
Fiji
Even better beaches!
Less people, tourists
Even more amazing scenery, much nicer for beach enthusiasts!
Similar climate to Hawaii
Less commercalised
Any help! It goes without saying, this will be a once in a lifetime thing and I recognise this!

I'm still stuck on the Hawaii factor. I SO want to move back.
If you want more relaxation and less tourist hassle...according to your list, do Fiji.

I'd love to go one day, but when I do, hitting Kauai and the Big Island would be fine for me. I wouldn't even want to go to Oahu, although I hear they are trying to make Honolulu less tacky and more stylish, but still, the crowds on Waikiki would be enough to turn me off............Btw, you used to live on Maui and voluntarily left???? What the hell are you doing here? Are you insane?
"What a long, strange trip it's been."

Yes, I lived on Maui. Long story short - the union contract I was under wasn't renewed. Paperwork/union management issues with losing said paperwork.
I'd not say I went willingly...if it weren't for that fumble of paperwork, I'd still live there. My old place has been dozed and it's a huge housing development - houses are 5 million each and up.
